To say that Hong Kong is a unique city would be a vast understatement. With its long history of international influences, it isn't surprising that Hong Kong is often regarded to as a gastronomical utopia. Food can be found at every hour of the day and every corner of the city. Whether you are looking for a quick bite from a food stand off the street or an opulent feast at an elegant banquet hall, the variety and accessibility of food in Hong Kong will be able to satisfy all taste buds.
Hong Kong cuisine is mainly influenced by the neighboring Canton province. Because the Canton province has been the trading port of many imported foods for many years, Cantonese cuisine has been able to evolve through time by incorporating an array of ingredients. It is believed that whenever someone outside of China acknowledges 'Chinese food,' they are often referring to Cantonese cuisine.
Traditional Cantonese cuisine boasts bold flavors with only modest use of spices and grease. The main focus is to capture the essence of the primary ingredients, which spotlights freshness and quality. Common spices and sauces seen in Cantonese dishes that are also used in many of our menu items include five-spice powder, Hoisin sauce, fermented soybean sauce, among others. Oh, and let’s not forget about ginger.
Apart from the food, Cantonese dishes are often served in shareable portions that are scalding hot because they come straight from the wok. Because everything is made to serve, all dishes are modifiable to the guests’ specific desires. Togetherness is a very important pillar within Chinese culture, and this ideal is consistent even in their dining customs.
Most meals are served family style, where multiple dishes are ordered so that each guest can sample multiple items. Dishes are complemented by rice, which aids in digestion and serves as a medium for bringing out the flavors of the main dishes.
As our objective states, our intention is to provide modern and authentic Cantonese food. All of the dishes on our main menu could be found in Hong Kong. We take a modern approach in providing coursed meals, as well as complementing meals with wine and craft cocktails. Furthermore, we select ingredients with our diners’ wellbeing in mind – freshness and premium quality will never fall behind convenience when it comes to priority.
We are delighted that there have been so many authentic Chinese restaurants that have been added inside the loop in the past several years, as well as all of the phenomenal Chinese restaurants that have long been feeding Houston foodies outside of the loop. Our intention is to join the cultural inception by offering our take on authentic Hong Kong cuisine coupled with delicious drinks in a fine dining experience. Ginger & Fork would love nothing more than for all of our guests to enjoy their time with us and to be able to experience Hong Kong in Houston.
