For those of you who do not know Donnie, he is our esteemed general manager and we are so proud to have him as a part of the Ginger & Fork family. We strive to serve only the best to our guests, but gladly reap the benefits of healthy fresh ingredients when it comes to eating our own food. The following blog post is Donnie sharing his story about how being on this journey has positively affected his health, to his and his doctor’s surprise.
I’ve been a southern boy my whole life and grew up eating a “standard southern diet.” Most meals included something that was deep-fried or processed. That was just the way of life as we knew it. My diet always reflected my health, as it did with the rest of my family. Having elevated levels of blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol was considered normal. We just didn’t know any better.
Since we started this project of opening Ginger & Fork almost a year and a half ago, I have eaten the healthiest I have in my whole life. I feel fortunate to be able to try a variety of native Chinese ingredients that are not commonly seen in the everyday American diet. Coupled with our light style of cooking, it’s been very easy for me to eat healthy because there are so many tasty options to choose from that I was never used to having. As a result, it wasn’t a chore for me because I was just eating delicious food!
I am extremely proud when I can tell my clientele that eating the food at Ginger & Fork nearly every day for the past year and a half has allowed me to have my blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol levels within normal range for the FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE and WITHOUT MEDICATION — as per my last doctor’s checkup about a month ago. My doctor and I were beside ourselves when I heard my results, especially when I achieved them so effortlessly.
It’s been an incredible journey learning about the amazing properties of Chinese vegetables and how the culture chooses to use food as their main method of healing. I think that more and more people are realizing the importance of diet in relation to their health, and that is why it is so important for us at Ginger & Fork to be able to provide delectable food options so that our customers do not have to choose between treating their taste buds and their body. I feel very encouraged from my experience and I’m always excited to share my story with others.
